Larry and I were high up in a chute in the Ruby Mountains watching a few mountain goats when we heard a snowcock calling. After awhile of sitting Larry saw three snowcock not too far away. After a photo or two they flew away and glided out of site. A few minutes later another snowcock appeared and landed on the other side of the chute we were in. Larry and I started taking photos as it walked up the slope. Later in the day we heard another snowcock and then watched a few fly off. We found one of those snowcock later and were able to get a few more photos. By the end of the day we had seen 8 snowcock and had some nice photos of 3 of them. The photos below were taken with a 12x optical zoom with my Cannon Powershot S3 IS 6 mega pixel camera. The three photos below taken by Bill Homan.

The snowcock in the first photo was less than 40 yards away. This bird called for over an hour. I worked my way above him and then came down the slope and found him below me walking away. The other photos were taken from a distance of around, what I would guess to be 70 yards. I watched this bird land as I was coming up the hill. It sat in one spot for awhile and then slowly walked to my right toward the bird in the first photo. All of the photos were taken using a 12x optical zoom with my Cannon Powershot S3 IS 6 mega pixel camera. Four photos below taken by Bill Homan.
